My Journey

Ξ June 16th, 2008 | → 5 Comments | ∇ painting |

Mixed media 1.2cmh x 90cm w This is painting is one of a set of three that depict my journey through life to a place called now.I collaged streetmaps of where I live to the painting (taking it literally) ,drew around my body, swollen with age, childbirth and good living and even included a sketch of myself at a younger time. There are areas of vibrant color indicating happy times and exciting events, peaceful reflective areas and ,as in all our lives, some dark spots that indicate  lack clarity of  purpose or even troubled periods. Reminding me of a saying ” Dont take life too seriously,  as none of us get out alive!”

About the Artist

I always loved art as a child,my grandfather painted,he studied at the Louvre in Paris and his work on the walls of my grandma's house filled me with awe, they were emotive paintings of sad children and dogs and beautiful nudes with flowing robes.

They had statues too,big ones, taller than me,then,of cherubs with bows and arrows.

One day, I will have a statue like that to take me back to those times.

I wasn't the most talented of his progeny, my cousin,Tina, was wonderfully talented and her younger sister Jean was better than me too, but " I " loved it and needed the escape more. I suppose because I had lost my father very young and needed a place away from reality.

Through my life this place of retreat(art)was always very special and as I learnt and grew it became a way for me to speak of the unspoken,to express internal chaos,to remember,to be me and no one else. I will share this journey with you as there is still a long way to go and it's an "anything can happen" world.
