  • There is some wonderful art and insights at Sliloh’s site where she mixes both traditional medium art and PC created art making little destinction between the two and I agree wholeheartedly with her.
  —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

I have discovered Soul Journaling.————————————————————————————————–

———————————————————————————- and was taking too it like a duck to water but I think some of the initial enthusiasm may be wearing off, it is soooo time consuming and the finished result is rarely what I had hoped for, but I have left this link for comments, they will have to scrape the rust off the comment box to get in, and the cobwebs, NO ONE COMES HERE! LOL! Posting my attempts below, anyone laughs and I will be over there like a shot, I can see you , I know WHERE you are! I think creative people are just driven to create no matter what the medium, I have done sculpture, my true love, in wax, fibreglass, clay, aluminium and will paint with anything I can find. _______________________________________________
  • This was the first exercise ” instant gratification”the credit for how it turned out goes to Kathryn and
her excellent instructions.
  •  IMGP2314.jpg
                                             -——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
  • This is the second exercise about giving yourself permission……..
HPIM0041v.JPG                              ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
  • This one was done with press glassed items meaning photocopies of objects, mine were bubble wrap and foil. They photocopied beautifully and I covered them with a wash.I used the childlike drawings to represent the childlike freedom that playing gives you and signed my envelope Lee Da Vinci just for fun. I stitched the envelope and used one of those great string- wind closers on it!
  • And the third and latest (as of 21 September 2008) Sorry about the focus??

  • The above page was done with found objects and was about the things you have lost and the things you have found in your life, these are very personal exercises! I find them very moving
  • Some Close ups below

  • —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
  • detail of the bottom of the page.

  • My found items were some Danger don’t enter tape, an old key to our roller door, some foil I found scrunched up in the bin and some feathers. I fenced in my disappiontments or the things I have lost to stop them from escaping and contaminating the new things I have found. I have added a small transparent envelope containing a picture of my brother and I as children and a wishing doll.
________________________________________                                 ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
  •  I have completed my Healing love page and chose to do it about a friend who died recently form cancer and another friend whose husband died unexpectedly soon after. Who has now lost a dear friend and a husband in the space of 2 weeks.
I learnt the importance of comfort and compassion and hope, those are the words I chose for my stencil inserts, I put a halo over the person and a cross and a boat because the guy who died was a Norseman and the viking funerals were boats set alight. The cat is symbolic as it is believed by some that they see the future and can communicate with the dead. The bird symbolises the soul. Just as birds are lifted up into the air by their feathers and can remain wherever they wish, the soul in the body is elevated by thought and spreads its wings everywhere. You can find more on symbolism here HPIM0235.JPG                             ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
  • Thanks for looking please leave a comment or sign my guestbook! Pretty please with sugar on it?

Personal Lexicon

  • This page was quite a challenge, I decided to use an inkblot effect with paint and write in
that. I love the randomness of the shapes it produces, so I squished some blue paint between two pages.                                                                   —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
  • Accidentally used too much and ended up with a really nice veined effect, one of those happy accidents.——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
  HPIM0273.JPG ————————— ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
  • The focus is just terrific as befits a photographer of my standing??? I am a real shocker!
I have taken a close up too! What I am trying to depict is that I take my inspiration from nature and this is the lexicon or language with which I write my art, layering, age, weathering, mother nature inspires my wonder in so many ways. I love mushrooms and those fungi that grow on trees in particular and birds and weathered wood, I have a lovely old wood spoked wheel that I got from a friends place is a prized possession and it is mounted on my studio, along with an old wooden meatsafe.I did a few washes on the background which was too bright when finished so I knocked it back with some with white crayon and scratched writing into it for texture! Ready for a rest!
  •  HPIM0275.JPG
———————————————————————- ———————————————————————–
  • This weeks exercise was a black and white doodle, I have always loved 3D
in doodles, something that you can travel through. The song “little boxes on the hillside ” was going through my brain, still is I cant get rid of it, I had to force myself not to color in the background. I hope someone gets it?   Once again the focus sucks, but you can get the idea, the legs at the top protrude above the page, the little houses are made of ticky tacky! ———————————————————————- I also joined collage to crow about and here are my two execises from there   This was my first exercise from there and I just did it on a pizza box to see what to do ———   ——————————————————————-   Once again the focus steals the day! In this group the collage sheet is supplied and you make what you will from it. I figure the more practice I get the better, doesn’t seem to be working with my photography though LOL! ____ IMGP2340.JPG ________________________________________________________—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
  • Ok, I have been getting way behind with my soul Journal and dont want to so today I put into catch up. Where have you been you ask? I discovered ATC’s and have beenswapping all over the world, you should see my beautiful collection!
  • Anyway back to the Soul Journal. The pages below were from the prompt, “intuitive collage“and the challenge was not to use any words. I was trying to say “time flies!” Can you see it?I used the loveliest little tiny sparkles, they are soo pretty!
  HPIM0617.JPG                ————-——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
  • Below is a detail of the left hand corner you can see as usual I put far too much into my collage, I just love the shapes and colors and contrasts soo much! Then I went over it with medium and then some vaseline and then some paint and ink and details. You can just see the colors coming through from beneath. It is the palimsense of the previous                                                                                            image.
—————————————————————————— HPIM0618.JPG ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
  • The web of Love—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
For this prompt I decided to weave my own web with a hairy wool I had lying around and stick it to the page, Boy ! was I in a tangle I got stuck to everything! HPIM0612.JPG
  • As usual my pic isn’t very clear .The quote is one Kathryn provided to give us more insight into the project, that womans blood is worth bottling, she is a fantastic inspiration to us all!
  • The detail below may show the wool clearer
HPIM0615.JPG
  • You can see why it stuck to my fingers!
  • Onward to the next one but not today, it will be “Unmasking the soul
——————————————————————————
  • My New Journal page from Kathtryn Antyrs’ prompts is  Personal Maps

We first explored maps and I was particularly taken with the ancient maps of the “new world” and wanted to do one in that style, then we thought about our own journey and our place in the world, so I added an image of me and a map of Australia and an arrow to where I live, taking it literally. Enough of being literal my flights of fancy took me to showing how I feel undertaking MY JOURNEY, walking a tightrope across sharp peaks and deep troughs into which one may fall and never return l, wish me luck , my sense of balance isn’t the best, but isn’t that what we are all searching for? Balance?

  • I used a thumb and link this time as it was a double page and too wide for the blog page, go take a look!

Here is the link to Kathryn’s site please take a look, it’s fabulously inspirational!

Your pages really are wonderful. I love the colours of your Instant Gratification page, and would so love to be that young and carefree again!!
I love the kites and birds and images of flying free on your Permissions pages.
Your Lost and Found pages are so good - I think we all feel about the same!!! It’s good to be reminded that although we have lost many things, we have also found many wonderful things to take their place.
Your Healing Love page is very loving and thoughtful. Thank you for explaining the symbolism of your elements.

Dear one - I love all of the thoughtful and heartfelt symbols that you use in your work. Fencing in your loss and disappointments - what a great idea. What a cool envelope closure. The healing love page has so much meaning and love in it. Each page is so colorful and unique. I too like the blog format for sharing our works. I hope your interest in Soul Journaling keeps as I look forward to seeing more from you. {soul hugs} k

Lee I love it. I think I like texture because of nature too. Your inkblot is fabulous and I love that color. So rich on your background. Great idea to knock it down and then scratch into the crayon. Now, why didn’t I think of that?! LOL

Your personal lexicon has a few items that I need to go back to and add to my page, namely the fungi/mushrooms. I also love gnomes. Oddly I don’t own one. I go visit the antique darling gnomes at my parents house each week. I too love birds. Oh your pages are fantastic!

I hope you don’t give up on “soul” journalling. I agree that at first it was SO time consuming and my pages NEVER looked like I wanted them to. But now when I look back at them, I like them! I hope you stick with it. I’m trying to get some of my friends to give it a try.

The dimensions that you created in the SJ doodle page is awesome. I feel like I could jump right in. I love how you took the basic elements of the prompt and made it your own.

Do you have a scanner? It may be one option for getting your pages in focus.

I just followed an email link to this site to view your pages! I absolutely Love your 3-D doodle/black and white page(the the kids sticking his tongue out too). I love the “feel” of your Lexicon page and the bright FUN of your instant gratification page.

I think why I am so SLOW at doing this type of journaling is the Time it takes. It isn’t a quick process, usually. However, once done they have more meaning for the time spent has helped capture more meaning. More of ME goes into the page I guess.

I haven’t tried this art-journalling yet, and may not for the very reasons you stated. It has to be time consuming to the max. I stay busy with the little online art challenges like atc’s, etc. This music is beautiful. Using an open chord tuning like that offers such different possibilities than the traditional guitar tuning. thanks for sharing. I’m just browsing around here.

Lee I really did enjoy looking at all your soul journal responses. You have inspired me to post more of mine on my blog (not done yet) and to go back and do more. I especially like the Lexicon page — the way you’ve laid it out has such a fantastic flow to it. And I love the web, which doesn’t feel like a trap at all but more like a cozy cocoon or a nest. Thanks so much for sharing yourself.

I added a link to your blog on the map blog roll and entered you into the contest. I love what you did! I know only too well what it feels like to walk the tight rope. Here is one of my favorite quotes from Julia Cameron, “Leap and the net will appear.”
